MV Disconnector Switch

Disconnectors , also known as Isolators, are used in HV and MV installations to isolate a circuit or parts of a circuit and to ensure, for safety reasons, to the operators and maintenance teams a visible interruption of the circuit.

High voltage isolating switch is widely used in power stations and substations. Because it has no arc extinguishing device, so it can not be used to cut off the load current, but can not cut off the short circuit current, usually used with high voltage circuit breaker.

How to choose a medium voltage Disconnector switch?

The conditions for selecting a voltage isolating switch can be divided into technical conditions and environmental conditions.

(1) Technical conditions.

 1) Choose according to normal technical conditions: this includes voltage, current, frequency and mechanical load.

 2) According to short-circuit stability verification, this includes dynamic stability, thermal stability and duration verification.

 3) According to the ability to withstand overvoltage: this includes the insulation level between the ground and the fracture, the creepage distance of the external insulation, etc.

(2) Environmental conditions.

This includes ambient temperature, daily temperature difference (outdoor use), maximum wind speed (outdoor use), relative humidity (outdoor, interior use), pollution conditions (outdoor use), altitude, seismic intensity, etc.
