What is a MV Load Break Switch (LBS)?
What is a MV Load Break Switch (LBS)?
A load break switch (LBS) is a device that ensures the on-load making, breaking and safe disconnection of medium-voltage circuits.
The LBS is an air load break switch with mains fuses. A striker is incorporated into the unit, a feature not found in conventional load break switches. The striker is a trip mechanism that operates when the fuse blows. When this happens, the striker opens all 3 poles simultaneously.
What is the Advantages of Load break switch?
Cheaper as compare to 2 pole structure
Safer
Protection provided for transformer (HRC fuses are provided for protection purpose)
Very easy to switch On & Off the supply
What is the LBS feature?
Excellent arc extinguishing characteristics.
The arc extinguishing system adopts the gas cooling method. This results in less contact wear than comparable oil-immersed models, ensuring longer service life and lower maintenance costs.
Lightweight and compact design.
Load break switch and fuse integrated in one body, ideal for H.V. cubicle or metal switchgear assembly applications.
High Current Limiting Power Fuses.
Model LBS is equipped with power fuses to ensure accurate and uniform breaking performance.
the first cost of the economy
The use of these fuses eliminates the need for a circuit breaker with a trip mechanism, thus reducing initial installation costs.
Safety Fuse Replacement
The fuse can be easily replaced or changed to a different rating and is very safe.
Shunt trip mechanism
The trip mechanism can be connected to LBS and LB with 100 and 200 amp ratings. It can be tripped remotely.
fuse indicator
LBS and LB 400 to 1500 amp rated switches can be equipped with a blown indicator limit switch for remote indication.
auxiliary contact
All of these switches can be connected to a 2NO+2NC 15 amp switch.
Motor drive types available
Standard version is used for joystick operation. Motor-driven versions are also available. For more information, please contact JGGY.
Load break switches, usually with a spring mechanism for turning the power on and off, however, vacuum circuit breakers are also available as an option. Of course, the option with a vacuum circuit breaker is more expensive. The choice between the two is entirely up to the client. Load switches with vacuum circuit breakers are a more reliable option.
Load switches with spring mechanisms are generally protected by fuses. Therefore, every time a failure occurs, the fuse needs to be replaced. On the other hand, if you use a load break switch with a vacuum circuit breaker, we just need to open the breaker.
The grounding earth switch also provides a load break switch, which helps ground the charge, which may be present even after the switch is turned off.
